Description | Concepts of basic algebra. Operations on real numbers and polynomials, solving equations, inequalities and systems, graphing, and problem solving are included. | ||||||||||
Prerequisites | TSI Score 310-335 and ABE Score 3-6, or TSI Score 336-341 | ||||||||||
Learning Outcomes |
Upon successful completion of this course, students will: 1. Use appropriate symbolic notation and vocabulary to communicate, interpret, and explain mathematical concepts. 2. Define, represent, and perform operations on real numbers, applying numeric reasoning to investigate and describe quantitative relationships and solve real-world problems in a variety of contexts. 3. Use algebraic reasoning to solve problems that require ratios and rates in a variety of contexts using multiple representations. 4. Apply algebraic reasoning to manipulate expressions and equations to solve real-world problems. 5. Use graphs, tables, and technology to analyze, interpret, and compare data sets. 6. Construct and use mathematical models in verbal, algebraic, graphical, and tabular form to solve problems from a variety of contexts and to make predictions and decisions. |

If you want to discuss your grades, you must schedule an appointment time to meet in person during my office hours or via TEAMS or Zoom. 2. You will need a calculator for this course (basic or graphing) 3. There will be no makeups for exams, you must be present on the day of the exam or you will receive a grade 0. |

Attendance Policy |
Class Attendance Expectations: Attendance in this class is a matter of state law - 10+ absences may result in immediate course failure. (This would mean that you missed 3 weeks of class). Your attendance will be tracked in Blackboard and will be available for you to view. It is NOT necessary for you to notify me if you will be absent. You will simply be marked absent if you are not present when I take attendance at the start of class. It is your responsibility to monitor your absences and make sure that you do not exceed the 10+ mark. *Online course attendance will be monitored weekly by checking the Last Log In dates/times found in MyMathLab and/or via discussion board participation |
